University of Hawaii Safer with Generators
The University of Hawaii in Manoa learned a lot from the flood that occurred on October 30, 2004, which left the University with plenty of damage and lack of emergency power. The University has setup a very beneficial emergency plan, which includes many backup generators that provide power to many facets of daily activities. The earthquake on October 15, 2006 did effect the University but not as bad as it could have as emergency generators provided electricity for students to heat up meals and for the most part, made sure elevators were not stuck. The emergency electrical generators also provided power for the Biomedical Sciences building where a lot of parts and pieces for test results and experiments require set temperatures in either freezers or heaters. The University was well prepared for this earthquake and many Universities across the country should take the same consideration for their emergency plans.
