Natural gas generators burn natural gas in order to produce electricity that can power an entire household. Although,
powering an entire household would be costly, a natural gas generator is designed to turn on only during emergency situations
like power outages or other blackout events. A natural gas generator can be designed to run an entire household or just some
applications in the house like water, appliances, and some other electrical units. The biggest advantage of a natural gas
generator is they ability to directly tie the generator with the fuel source for homes already receiving natural gas as an

Coal has been a dominant force for electricity generation in major plants for some time. However, coal will
never have a big impact in residential, business, or portable backup generators because it is a major pollutant. Coal does

home or business use. Natural gas a big advantage over coal in residential, business, and portable backup generators as well

Natural gas's main disadvantage over renewable resources is the fact that it is still a pollutant. Renewable sources like
wind, water, and solar are all environmentally safe fuel sources for generators. However, the main advantage that natural gas
and most non-renewable fuel sources have in the generator market is the constant accessibility to them. Natural gas currently
flows to millions of homes, making it easy to buy a generator that runs on it. However, for renewable resources, the fuel
source is not as constant. The wind will vary and solar power can fluctuate as well. Cogeneration, pretty much makes these
two type of generators equal but natural gas currently still is more favorable for constant use. For backup generators, a
cogenerating solar and wind one could be much more cost effective as power can be stored until emergency situations.
Natural Gas Generator vs. Diesel Generator
Diesel is a petroleum based fuel that is used more in larger engines. Diesel, like gasoline, is a heavy pollutant and very
costly. Natural gas generators have the same advantage over diesel generators in cost and cleaner burning. However, new
research on biodiesel could push the use of diesel generators as it becomes more cost effective and environmental friendly.

Gasoline has been a dominant fuel source in everything from cars to power tools for a long time and will continue to be
for some years to come. However, the move to save the environment and depend less on foreign oils has prompted much research
on alternative fuel sources. Natural gas has been considered more effective since it burns cleaner and costs much less.
Natural gas generators are much more efficient for homes and portable units as it comes in safe tanks that are much less
hazardous. Natural gas already flows to homes through pipes. There has also been a push to convert cars to use different
gasses which would greatly decrease dependency on foreign oil.
