arklow bank wind farm

The Arklow Bank Wind Park is located 10 kilometers off the east coast of Ireland, nestled on a shallow water sandbank. Ireland's first offshore wind farm was started in 2002 by Airtricity who obtained a foreshore lease for a 520 MW offshore wind farm. The first phase of the project included 7 GE 3.6-megawatt turbines, the first commercial application for offshore wind farms using turbines capable of generating more than three megawatts, and was completed in June 2004 with a capacity of 25 MW. The company plans to build up 200 wind turbines for the offshore wind farm and still has a long way to go to meet its goal.
