The UK has stressed it's desire to become less dependent on non-renewable resources and has improved by adding more renewable resources to its sources of energy. Offshore wind farms are very important to the UK, being an island surrounded by coastlines that can be used, and the government has set forth policies and support structures to help promote and finance projects. There is a lot of room for improvement in research, development, and the whole procedure from planning to producing energy that needs to be improved and there is some progress as the major energy companies and developers like AirTricity and DONG Energ research on ways to cut development cost and improve efficiency. The monarch's crown estate has issued decision to pay a portion of pre-construction development costs and has agreed to purchase the 7.5MW Clipper Windpower MBE prototype, one of the largest offshore wind turbines available. With efforts like this, the UK has move from a minor player with its first offshore project, the North Hoyle wind farm, and has jumped to one of the leading countries that produces electricity from offshore wind power at 590MW. There should be major growth as the UK looks to harness even more offshore wind power and the directory will list the completed and running projects.
